Notes for the Final Exam

H-Block Review 6/12 1:00 - 2:25 Answer Key for Previous Finals

The final is on Wednesday, June 13th from 12:00 to 1:30.  You can stay until 2:00.  You should get there a little before noon so you can get settled, return your book, etc.

For the final you need to bring:
  •    pencil (please do not take your final in pen)
  •    eraser (no sharing of anything!)
  •    calculator (you may want to bring extra batteries just in case - no sharing!)
  •    book
H-Block in room 616 (I will be with you 1:30 to 2:00)

Where I will be the other times:
   room 615  12:00 to 12:30 
   room 613  12:30 to 1:00
   room 614  1:00 to 1:30

You can find me and ask questions at any time but it would be better if you wait until I am in your room or just next door.

Reviewing for the final

We have a packet of problems and access to old tests at the LHS Math Final Exam Archive.  You will work on them for 3 days in class and then we will have one 80 minute long block for you to ask any question about any unit, any test, any problem from the year.

Mid-Year Exam results

You can download the answer key for the mid year exam.
The average for all 8 sections was 20.425. The average for my class was 18.48.
For each problem, here are the overall vs my section averages:

  1. 4.09  vs  4.54
  2. 2.90  vs  2.52
  3. 2.34  vs  2.1
  4. 3.19  vs  2.96
  5. 4.29  vs  4.16
  6. 3.63  vs  2.2  (clearly due to the fact that 12 out of 25 didn't do the problem!)
My conclusion, pacing was an issue.  Let's work on it so the final is more enjoyable.

Hints for the Similarity Review problems

First, in problem 5, the median should be AD (not AB). Secondly, also in problem 5, it may be helpful to draw a line that through D that is parallel to BQ.

Remember that you do not always need to prove some triangles are similar to get the ratios you need. Parallel lines and angle bisectors also give you useful ratios.

Parallel Lines (Flat and Curved Surfaces)

Chapter 6 is about Parallel Lines. Chapter 16 is about non-Euclidean surfaces (ie curved surfaces) and what what happens to parallel lines if the surface isn't flat (Euclidean). We will be putting them together to compare and contrast the uber-important, as yet unproven, Parallel Lines Postulate.
